Have you had a hard journey lately?
If you’re in leadership, the honest answer is probably yes. Ministry is demanding. Organizational life is relentless. And the weight of carrying vision, managing people, navigating conflict, and staying spiritually grounded through all of it — it has a way of wearing you down in places nobody else can see.
There is good news. The Lord wants to bind up your broken heart. He has proclaimed freedom for you as a captive. He declares the much-awaited opening of the prison of your own design.
Read that last line again. The prison of your own design. That’s a leadership sentence if there ever was one. So many of the things that hold leaders back. There is the need for control, the fear of failure, the isolation of carrying it alone, the quiet resentment of unmet expectations — these are all prisons we’ve built for ourselves. And God is standing at the door saying, I came to open this.
Our God is so good. He’s our Shield, our Defender, our Rock, and our Redeemer. He alone can bring us beauty from all the ashes of destruction.
He Knows Your Whole Story
If you give it any thought, you will be humbled and amazed. Do you know God personally as your Healer and Redeemer? No matter where you are in your journey with Jesus today, He longs to heal your hurts. He knows them all, by the way. Every triumph, every failure, every need. And He alone is able to bind up your broken heart.
He is here for you now, and longs for you to run to Him as your Strong Tower. He loves you more than anything on this earth. And the best news is, He always will. His love endures forever. He is gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in love. He created you, He knows you fully, and the amazing part of it all is that He Himself is faithful to supply all your needs in Christ Jesus.
That’s not a motivational poster. That’s the foundation every leader needs under their feet before they take another step.
When Disappointment Has Set In
Have you ever found this life a bit disappointing? Are you weary of fellow earth-walkers letting you down, again? Perhaps your plan for life didn’t quite work out as you thought?
Leaders feel this acutely. You pour into people and they leave. You cast vision and it falls flat. You sacrifice for an organization that doesn’t seem to notice. And over time, a slow cynicism starts to settle in. It’s not dramatic enough to cause a crisis, but steady enough to dull your spiritual sensitivity and erode your passion.
Yes, Jesus promised us that life on this earth would indeed bring us trouble. But we were created for so much more than trudging through a weary 24-hour period each day. We were created to know and commune with our very Creator, the Maker of all things. We were created to worship and bow before the One who is perfect and holy. We are to bring honor and praise each day to the One who knows us best and loves us most.
If disappointment has been your companion lately, it may be that God is not removing you from the difficulty, He’s using it to encounter you in a new way. Some of the most significant moments of growth I’ve seen in leaders don’t come in the victories. They come in the valleys, when everything familiar gets stripped away and you’re left with nothing but the presence of God. And that’s where He does His deepest work.
The New Season Starts Today
Today is the day. Today is the day to seek freedom in the arms of Jesus. In Him, you are free to live as He intended.
As you walk in the Spirit, He will lead you along the path He’s mapped out for you. As you seek to become more like Him, you learn to truly love others as He truly loves you, no matter what you’ve done.
You learn patience and perseverance. You learn what real forgiveness looks like. You learn that life is not about you. It’s about life in Christ.
And for leaders, that realization changes everything. When you stop leading out of your own ambition and start leading out of His purpose, you move from managing outcomes to developing people. You stop trying to build your thing and start stewarding His. You become less concerned with being in charge and more committed to taking care of those in your charge.
That’s what it looks like to step into a new season. It’s not just a change in circumstances, but a change in posture. It’s a willingness to exchange your weariness for His strength, your disappointment for His perspective, your self-reliance for His empowerment.
Sent for Others
Here’s the part that makes this more than just a personal devotional: Isaiah 61 isn’t only about what God does for you. It’s about what He does through you. The same anointing that binds up your broken heart is the anointing that sends you to bind up the brokenhearted around you. The freedom you receive is the freedom you’re called to proclaim.
It’s about reaching out to those in the valley of the shadows. It’s about letting Him use you to meet people at the point of their need and to proclaim freedom for those bound up in chains of sin and turmoil, to comfort those who mourn. That’s the mission. That’s what reliable messengers do. They carry what they’ve received and deliver it faithfully to the people God puts in front of them.
Will you allow Him to be that to you, in you, and through you today?
Be encouraged as you read Isaiah 61 — the whole chapter. And as you do, ask yourself: What new season is God inviting me into? And who has He positioned me to bring along?
